Unidentified attackers demanded that the Belgian credit institution Elantis to pay 150,000 euros to Friday, the fourth of May, otherwise promised to publish the personal information of its customers. Threats were published in the May third service Pastebin, reports Computerworld.
Hackers have noted that this amount is "pay-per-idiocy": according to them, the data is located on a server in an unencrypted form. They have received information includes customer names, their places of work, contact information and other information.
The bank Belfius, which includes Elantis, confirmed the burglary, saying about a possible leak of data 3700 customers. In this regard, the organization closed its website and appealed to law enforcement agencies of Belgium, and also alerted about the incident of its customers. Parallel investigation of the incident involved an unnamed U.S. company, the newspaper notes.
In Belfius stressed that it is not going to succumb to the threat of fraud and pay them the requested amount. The bank also noted that the hackers sent an email with the same requirements as early as Friday, April 27. At the same attackers did not specify how the money should be transferred.
After writing the hackers to communicate with the bank is no longer out. The bank plans to restore the site after checking it for security.
