Samsung desperately trying to defend itself

Samsung and Microsoft decided to cross-license their patent portfolio. This should protect both companies from outside attacks. Besides that Samasung will pay royalties to Microsoft for all tablets and phones using the Android platform. It is also stated in the agreement that both companies will participate in the Windows Phone’s 7 development and marketing. Microsoft has already signed a licensing deal with six Android developers.HTC is the next after Samsung to sign it.
So isn’t it looks like Samsung’s desperate effort do defend itself?

Google is about to open new start-up office in London to create "technology community centre" in London's East End.

Google is going to open it’s start-up in London to bring to life government’s plan to create a Tech City in the capital. It is to be multimillion-pound “technology community centre” which is seven-floor building. The cluster of the Internet companies will be located there, in the heart of London's so-called "Silicon Roundabout". 
Prime minister announced that he is going to create a rival to Silicon Valley in November last year. He supported  the start-up by £400m in government funding. It has been also supported by such companies as Facebook, Cisco and BT.
The space will mainly be used for start-ups as training workshop in the capital, Google’s spokesman said.
New physical hub TechHub is going to open it’s office in new building. But Twitter decided not to open an office.
To sum up the Google’s start-up shows that GB is open for high tech business.

Pageview machine Tumblr is now bigger than Wikipedia

Tumblr just raised $85 million due to it’s pageviews. Since the beginning of the year it jumped from 2 billion a mounth to 13 billion. It is adding 40 million posts a day and already has 10 billion posts. 72 million visitors a month visits the site. Tumblr has bigger pageview than Wikipedia right now. Tumblr is designed in such way that it generates a lot of internal traffic between members.
To get a full image of the numbers provided by comScore let’s have a look at more detailed information. In August Tumblr reached 100 the most visited sited (number 99) with 41 million unique visitors. But 6.5 billoin’s pageview a month makes it in the 21th position among all sites ranked by that metric. For example Wikimedia Foundation sites (including Wicipedia.org) get 423 million unique visitors a month (5.6 pageview).

Samsung’s efforts to justify are becoming more and more hilarious

Russian says that the best way to defend is to attack. So did Samsung in the patent war with Apple. For those who still don’t know I want to remember that Apple sue Samsung for stealing their ideas in Samsung’s Galaxy series. The war is going about six months.
To defend itself Samsung announced that the idea of producing tablets came from the 2001 Stanley Kubrick’s film “A Space Odyssey”. In one of the episodes there are two devices that impressively similar to the tablets. Samsung wants judge to decide if this fact affected to the production of all the tablets. If so then a lot of fantastic movies’ directors can sue a lot of companies for stealing their cinematic ideas.
Also as iPhone 5 is abut to be released Samsung plans to ban the sales of the novelty in Korea, Korea Times reports.
Samsung contersues Apple in Korea. The sue is more technology based and reffered to the five patent infringements. Samsung also filled separate lawsuits in Manheim, Germany and Tokyo, Japan.
One more innovation Samsong may be sued for. It releasing cross massager ChatOn. Isn’t it looks like iPhone cross massager?

Facebook: “We wanted to design a place that feels like your home”

Facebook is keep changing.
At the f8 conference in San Francisco CEO Mark Zuckerberg took the stage to present the first major change - the profile. The old profile shows last 15 minutes of your life, the new one called Timeline shows “all the rest”. It seems to be complete rethought from the ground up as Mark Zuckerberg noted, “Timeline is a story of your life”.
Mark made a great presentation of nothing-like-that-before called Timeline. Now it is much more visual. It has now three main parts:

• all your stories
• all your apps
• a new way to express who you are

And now it shows all your story from the moment you’ve born.

The hardest part was to display all this on one page. The problem has been solved by showing all the recent content in a new grid-view. But if you go back it shows only the most important content. The farther back you go, the less you see.
It works on mobile too but more condensed.

The only inconvenience is that the price for the delivery is not included. For example RedLaser, similar app, shows concrete shops where you can buy a product. The latest tend of the bands is to create a iPod/iPhone/iPad app to keep their fans in touch with the music, news, any concert information all the time. There are already a lot of apps and the latest we’ve looked through was Noel Gallacher’s High Flying Birds app as you remember. But there is a lot of cool apps besides that. For example Band Of The Day. It chooses a single artist to recommend every day. As CEO Kiran Bellubbi says, you do not have to think about 30 days to wait like in other similar apps. You have access to all the music and news at a time.
“It is more like calendar where every day you have a new band” Kiran Bellubbi says. Band Of The Day is an elegant app, complete with an embedded music player that slides down from the top of the screen to reveal playable (full-length) tracks from the featured artists, as well as a button to flip it to a digital mixtape of tracks from many of them.
What is interesting that it is paid service. It costs £0.69 per month.
But what is questionable what criteria is working for deciding what band I will be listening today?

Google finally have bought DailyDeal.

The terms of the deal are undisclosed. Last year Google was trying to buy Groupon for near $5.3 billion. Then Google launched it’s own Groupon called Google Offers. That venture, currently only available in New York, San Francisco and Portland, Oregon, has not performed too well. DailyDeal.de will give Google international momentum, no doubt. The site was founded in 2009 by two brothers Fabian and Ferry Heileman. Today has more than 200 employees. According to The Associated Press, Google has spent more than $2.7 billion buying more than 70 companies since late 2009. Also Groupon has bought clones of itself in HonKong, South Africa and India to help it expand overseas. It is also become the fastest growing company ever.
So, hope Google will succeed with the new purchase.

New Windows 8 for tablets will be available in a year.

“Windows re-imagined” has been released on the Build conference held last week in Anaheim, California. This was a festive occasion for the presentation new Windows 8. You can download the Developer Preview and try it.
So two things impress from the first sight:

1. New Metro UI which coexists with more traditional windows look. The start up page now looks like in the image. The idea is that Win 8 is now ready to be used on tablets. Customisable set of titles gives you quick access to your favourite everyday activities. Desktop title redirects you to the familiar Microsoft UI only with the ribbon like in Office 2010 apps.




2. The forking of apps on the ARM version of Win 8. As you know traditional Windows apps are convenient and easy to use. But compatibility with tablets is very questionable. Win 8 will solve this problem with forking of apps. We're told Windows 8 will ship in about a year so we could test all the new apps then.

Have you ever heard about Noel Gallaher's new app for iPhone? As you know Noel Gallaher, former Oasis lead guitarist, has his own rock band Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds. Who is the next to launch another tablet? NEC?

LaVie Touch has been announced by NEC today. Unlike the other popular tablets LaVie has a few specific features. The first is Windows 7 Home Edition. The second one and more pleasant is three hardware add-ons. The tablet comes with a mix between stand and DVD-drive (dubbed “Multistation”), a wireless mouse, and a wireless keyboard. Convenient, isn’t it? So you can use it as a tablet and as a desktop computer or something alike. What is not very pleasant is 10.1-inch IPS LCD panel with 1,280×800 resolution so it’s pretty small for normal work. Wi-fi and bluetooth are attached. 1.3MP camera (could have been batter). Ports: 2xUSB, HDMI, SDHC. 10.6 hours battery life so you should recharge it twice a day. Size: 263×183×15.8mm, weight: 729g. Not bed for US$1,230 with add-ons.

It is the sixth time in a row Apple tops the list. It scored in all areas. The next is HTC which is followed by Samsung Motorolla and RIM. Nokia’s performance was particularly poor.
The survey includes all physical characteristics. It showed that lighter smartphones are more preferable and that’s no wonder. Also such features as ease of operating, performance and physical design.

You can choose a section like “pregnancy” and see what kinds of food are an issue there.

Apple can’t stop doing their best for the users!

Thanks to an improved battery pack the new generation of iPad expected to be even lighter than iPad 2. If someone has forgotten iPad 2 is 0.34 inches thin.

Simplo Technology Co. and Dynapack International Technology Corp. are two suppliers of bateries of iPad and MacBook baterries.

The new batteries will not only make iPad thinner and lighter but also extend it's battery life. The 20-30% increase of the price is also expected due to the advanced technology used.

Hopefully this won’t affect the price of the end product.

Since July 2010 after TLD .co for commercial use had been approved domain .xxx is the first ICANN has approved. Also ICANN has approved a so-called “dot-whatever” plan that will allow all kinds of suffixes.

The ICM Registry like GoDaddy acting in a way that brands have 50 days to claim their domains (e.g. mcdonalds.xxx). It should cost around 200$ for brands to get their new .xxx domains says CEO of ICM Registry. Brand holders will pay once unlike other TLDs which cost roughly 50$ a year. When 50 days has passed there is a 17-day period to sale to the adult entertainment industry.

“It’s a win because you’ll be able to surf porn safely,” says Lawley, the CEO of ICM Registry.

Let's look through Microsoft innovations and new exciting apps for them! For example the Surface.

For those who didn't know the Surface is a software and hardware combination technology developed by Microsoft. It allows user by the use of gesture recognition to manipulate digital content. It can be the motion of physical objects as good as the motion of hands. It was announced on May 29, 2007. The idea has become real due to the 40 inch Samsung SUR40 for Microsoft Surface that can be used as a table, on the wall, or embedded in other fixtures or furniture.

If you get to the Microsoft campus to the group of developers of the Surface you will see how people enjoy working with this innovation. They can't stop creating new exciting apps even after the working hours. For example there is a so called 'papered table' which allows you to do a mess like in regular journal table.

The developers enjoy games as badly as children. A game allows you to control your ship by the tokens. The dots emanate from various locations and it’s your job to navigate them.

There is one more application called 'morning briefing' that is meant to run on your living room’s idle TV.

Another thrilling feature is 'voise ang gesture controlling'. You say "mail"

and it goes to your email or you say "notes" and it switches to that.

And that's not the full list of amazing apps for the Surface. So developers

are having fun creating them even more than users using them.

Booktrack. Perfect of horrible idea?

Aulgust, 23 NYT announced the launch of the new startup called Booktrack. Was it an efford to create a new genre of e-books?

Booktrack produces a synchronized soundtracks for e-books to create the whole emotionally coloured image of the book. It can be downloaded to iPhone, iPad and Andriod apps are on the way. Its technology is already fully integrated in the new novel ‘The Power of Six’ by Pittacus Lore (James Frey), published by HarperCollins Children’s Books. The profits will be shared with participating authors, composers, and musicians, the company said in a press release.

But there are such thoughts as music can do nothing but distract from reading. The Booktrack’s co-founder Paul Cameron compares e-books in their current form with ‘movies with no soundtrack’ in the press release.

So wheather read traditional books, booktrack or simply watch movies it is up to you. But you can tell nothing untill you try it.

Google has changed the World Wide Web. Larry Page and Sergey Brin has met in 1995 and soon in January 1996 they decided to lunch the search system called BackRub. After they decided to rename the system and changed creepy logo. They named it in favor of Google, a play on the mathematical figure, “googol,” which represents the number 1 followed by 100 zeroes. What they were tying to say is that they were going to create infinite amount of web resources.
And That's what we have got!

Larry and Sergey on September 4, 1998, filed for incorporation as Google Inc. — they had got a $100,000 check made out to Google from an investor, Inc., and needed to incorporate that name so they could legally deposit the check.

Can’t Wait! co-founder Eric Florenzano says that people need to be remainded about upcoming flicks they utterly was looking forward to. HTC is becoming more and more popular!

Recently the company announced two new Windows Phone 7 smartphones which are HTC Titan and HTC Radar. The peculiarity is that the Titan is a huge with a 4.7-inch, WVGA (800 x 480 pixel) screen device! Thoudh it won't fit to your pocket it still falls under the pocket-size label. It comes with 16 GB of storage, an 8-megapixel camera and HSPA+ connectivity. The Radar is more likely to a regular smartphone with it's 3.8-inch Super LCD screen, a 1GHz Snapdragon CPU, 512 MB of RAM and a 5-megapixel camera on the back. Both devices are coming soon!

Every progressive user of social networks meets the problem of connecton with "real life". People often forget to meet other people in physical world becouse they have a feeling of knowing everything they need to know about their friends, business partners or even family.

Student Chris McNicoll folows the idea of illustrating "the potential for connecting digital and physical communities". Every time a passerby decides to take a break on the TweetingSeat a snapshot taken from a camera in the bench, and another in a nearby tree, are uploaded to Twitter, automatically capturing the sitters and their view from the bench. And that's not the first piece of furniture Chris has produced. There is also brilliant Twittering Office Chair that have similar functionality.
