BBC forbade its employees to write or exclusive breaking news on Twitter, before they will notify their colleagues about what happened.
The corresponding statement was made editor of Social Media by Chris Hamilton.
The statement says that journalists must first inform the emergency news in writing to his colleagues, so that they could have it send out to all BBC services (the company combines a number of TV channels, radio stations and websites in different languages).
The company noted the importance of Twitter in the press, but added that the priority for them is to alert the audience the BBC, not just people reading microblogs.
Note that this decision followed a statement from the broadcaster Sky News, which has banned its employees working in the accounts, retweet messages from users not employed by the company. Broadcaster also warned employees that they are not written in the working accounts of events not directly related to work. In addition, Sky News journalists were asked to refrain from assessing those who cover their colleagues.
